Ever since the iPhone was revealed I’ve been wondering what sort of cool applications could be created for a buttonless device. One thought that kept coming up was a universal remote. Since there are no preset buttons developers can pretty much use the screen to do whatever they want. It seems the possibilities could be endless for the development of the iPhone.

After thinking about how the iPhone could become a universal remote I decided to search Google and see if anyone has started developing this kind of software. To my surprise there actually is an app out there to do such a thing and much more. It’s called Telekinesis. Currently it’s a work in progress at verison 0.9.21. Right now current features include:

  • Stream music and videos from your computer
  • Screen capture with mouse click and basic typing support
  • Simple iTunes Remote control
  • Browse your files
  • Run applescript remotely
  • iSight image capture
  • Basic Spotlight search
  • Easily create and add more apps

I personally haven’t installed this product yet, but plan on testing it out within the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned to see how the install goes and what I think of it. For more information visit Telekinesis
