I finally came across an article that really describes the focus of this website. This blog site was created to provide a medium for people to break out of their CUBICLE walls and check out new things going on in the technology world. Two other guys and myself decided to start this life because the day to day operations at our jobs bore us to death and really disgusted us in how the corporate life has turned into. This article from Reuters surveys over 2,000 employees online. 60% of employees admitted to wasting time at work and on average waste 20% of their working day. That means that every 1.5 hours of an 8.5 hour work days is wasted on different activities. The different activities that wasted time were surfing the internet, chatting with co-workers, and taking care of personal business.
I definitely have wasted time at work throughout my short career. My reasons have ranged from all three of those activities. The survey found that the reasons people wasted time were due to not having enough work, not enough of challenging work, and having long work hours. I have had different jobs that I felt that I wasn’t challenged enough and had extra time, so I did not feel bad that I was surfing the internet or wasting time. I mean I would try to get as much work as I could get but sometimes in the business amount of work goes in waves. My last job I felt more of the later of that I wasn’t getting paid enough. I vowed that I would not work over 40 hours due to the way the company treated employees in which I knew some of the other people I worked with felt the same way. I recently just left that company and started at another company and will be hoping that the work will be challenging enough to keep me busy and happy.
