There has been some news in the tech world sprouting with Sprint’s name all over it. First off, the HTC touch which is out in the GSM world is comming to Sprint with some upgraded features according to Gizmodo. This phone is somewhat of another “iPhone Competitor”, it runs Windows Mobile 6 and has a pretty sweet UI that has similar functionalities of the iPhone. Sprints version will of course support CDMA and EVDO (rev a with software update) high speed data which for sure knocks the socks off of AT&T’s EDGE data network. The processing speed will be bumped from 200Mhz to 400Mhz to make sure that WM6 runs smoothly. It will also come with assisted GPS and will support all Sprint media like TV and music, unlike my beloved Treo 700wx. Check out a sweet video of the this phones UI at Phonescoop. One thing this really lacked is that of a virtual keyboard similar to the iPhone. The Touch relies on Windows Mobile built in virtual keyboard which is designed to be used with a stylus. So this phone does a great job of trying to liberate the WM user from a stylus but does fail in some areas and people will have to rely on it. Hopefully with this updated Touch, HTC has addressed this issue. Sprint has given an estimated release date of November this year.

Another new find coming from Sprint is the long awaited replacement for the beloved Palm Treo 700wx and 750. There was rumors that the next phone would be called 800w and even a while ago the code name for the phone was Gandolf and some pictures were found. Now with an internal document the phone will be called the Centro and will not be in the Treo line. According to the blog this seems like this phone will be marketed towards the younger crowds as it will be the smallest Palm phone so far that has a tiny keyboard. I also think it looks hideous and does not fit in with the business crowd. One good side about this phone is that it will supposively be released for $99! Which of course will be with some 2 year contract and a $300 mail in rebate or something like that. This phone will run windows mobile and will supports Sprint’s EVDO data network. This phone does seem great to get the young hip users to buy a Smartphone and get them to be loyal customers at a younger age.

Samsung is releasing something Awesome for Sprint users that have bad reception in their own homes. The Samsung Ubicell is the solution to this dirty problem. This is to combat T-mobiles WiFi hot spot cellphone, other than any Sprint phone can use this cell tower in a box. It is as simple as unboxing the device which is the size of a normal router, plugging it into the wall and then plugging it into your broadband connection and whoala you have an instant cell tower that will work up to 5000 feet and support 1xRTT data. This thing seems awesome, other than I wonder how secure it is and how well it works with poorly working broadband connections, because you all know that we have trouble with our cable companies every now and again. To add on to this topic Sprint also seems to be releasing a pocket EVDO to WiFi router. Which seems really cool on the go, either plug in your EVDO USB dongle or plug in your EVDO enabled Cellphone that has an USB adapter and BOOM instant WiFi all of course using your EVDO connection, so make sure your plan can handle all that data and not charge you millions of dollars.

Well after that long blog about the new gadgets that Sprint will be releasing the near future this next little blirt will be about where Sprint will be dumping lots of money in the near future. Sprint is going to be dumping 5 BILLION dollars in the the WiMax technology in the next 3 years (source). WiMax is essentially Sprint’s next generation data network which is classified at 4G. Sprint plans on bringing in other companies to widely roll this network out. As far as I know this is the first widely announced 4G data network from a US carrier. Looks like Sprint isn’t messing around when it comes to 4G.
