Firewalls help prevent unwanted intruders from accessing your PC. A really good and pretty easy to use firewall is ZoneAlarm. ZoneAlarm will block all incoming and outgoing requests until you allow certain programs to make connections. ZoneAlarm can be downloaded free of charge for Windows 2000 & XP here. Once installed you’ll need to set it up if you have a home network so that it doesn’t block access to your other computers.

To unblock your other computers through ZoneAlarm you click on the Firewall tab on the left of the screen. Once your on the Firewall screen you just click on the Add button towards the bottom right. It will bring up a screen where you’ll name the description of the connection and then enter the IP Address.

As you can see I’ve unblocked the connection to my iMac, iPhone, and my Home Server. This program works pretty well and as I’ve said is easy to use. You don’t have to be a network engineer or spend any money to try this program so why not give it a shot?
