Gizmodo put a Dell XPS One a Gateway One and an iMac up together for a comparison. Companies are starting to realize that that Apple has something right (not suggesting that they don’t have a lot of things right) in which average computer users want a SIMPLE and SEXY looking computer. Just like a car even though some people are not car people but most people don’t want to be caught in an ugly car, so they don’t want to be caught using an ugly computer. I view this as poor marketing research from the PC makers in which they are not fulfilling what their customers want. Basically these computers are just a Laptop without the keyboard and mouse that is set up to be used as a desktop. For Apple this is how they have been making their computers for a long time but for Gateway and Dell this is one of their first attempts at it.
Gizmodo did not compare computers specs but only compared the looks of the machines. I disagree with gizmodo in which they picked the iMac as the best looking of the machines, seems like they have too many apple fanboys working over there. I believe that the iMacs are now starting to get outdated in style and seems too plain to win the contest. I do think that the Gateway is definately the ugliest machine. Widescreen look is definately the way to go, so when the Gateway has a huge “chin” to say, it just makes it look ughh. Also I think Gateways and Dells keyboard and mouse are A LOT better looking than the plain Apple keyboard and mouse. As I said before the iMac design is getting a little outdated, the plain white is so 2005.
When it comes to screen size Apple takes the cake in which it eclipses both the Dell and Gateway, but in response to that I believe both companies are working on larger sized versions of their Ones. I believe these computers are good for your average every day userĀ and will look good in almost any room of the house, but they do lack the speed and upgradeability of a powerfull desktop machine.
