Well I notoriously read all sorts of blogs when I get home from work. I came across this article from Digital Inspiration that I know was possible to do but never took the time or effort to research. This article talks about how to change the functionality of that so called “Power Button” that you find on the Windows Vista Start Menu. I never bothered to use it because I would just fiddle with the button with the right arrow to select the option you desire. I have a very portable laptop so I’m always using it without the AC adapter plugged in. So when the power is about to go, I hibernate the device and if I’m going to step away I can leave it on and after 10 minutes of idle it will go to sleep for me. If I have the laptop plugged in, there is no reason for me to hibernate the device so I would like for it to sleep when I hit that button. Well here is a quick and easy way to get to the configuration screen. Go to the Start menu, type “cmd” in the search bar and hit enter. Then on the command line screen type “powercfg.cpl,1″, once the menu pops up click on the “Power buttons and lids”, then click “Start menu power button”. There you will find the option to adjust when plugged in and when on battery. This way you are able to adjust the settings any way you want. In conjuction with the physical power button you are able to get plenty of configurations to fit your needs. Comming soon will be Power Adjustment Utility!
